Ethernet Patch leads are critical to the operation of data networks that require high-speed data transmission and bandwidths. Connecting two electrical devices for signal transmission, these are typically used in network applications to ‘patch’ a signal from one router or switch to another, in bays, racks or multiple computers and devices.
One of the key factors to consider when selecting Ethernet patch leads is the length of the cable. It’s important to choose a cable that is long enough to reach the desired device, but not so long that it becomes cumbersome or difficult to manage. In general, it’s best to use the shortest patch lead possible to reduce signal loss and interference.
Another important factor to consider is the connector type. Ethernet patch leads typically use either RJ45 connectors or fiber optic connectors. RJ45 connectors are the most common and are used for standard Ethernet cables. They’re designed to transmit data over copper wire and are suitable for most networking applications.
Ethernet patch leads are also available in a range of colours, which can be useful for identifying and organizing cables in a network. Some users may prefer to use different colours for different types of devices or connections, while others may simply choose a colour that matches their personal preference or branding.
It’s important to choose the right patch lead for your specific needs to ensure reliable and efficient networking.
The TruAccessories range of Cat 6 U/UTP LSHF & Cat 6A S/FTP LSHF patch leads are offered in 13 lengths from 0.3 meters to 20 meters, and in 10 different colours (black, blue, red, white, grey, violet, pink, orange, yellow and green) for easy identification. All the patch leads in this range are Low Smoke Halogen Free (LSHF) making them suitable for installations in public buildings, data centres, computer or server rooms and generally where fire safety is important.
Both Cat 6 & Cat 6A patch leads can support high-speed data rates of up to 10Gbps. Cat 6 supports 10BASE-T, 100BASE-T and 1000BASE-T gigabit ethernet standards with frequencies up to 250MHz. Cat 6A is able to provide twice the maximum bandwidth and maintain higher transmission speeds over longer distances. Suitable for Power over Ethernet (PoE+).
All of our patch leads feature a latch protector and flush moulded boot for strain relief and to prevent the RJ45 plug from coming loose. Unlike most data and networking cables used over longer distances, these patch cables use stranded plain copper conductors (Cat 6 - 24AWG & Cat 6A - 26AWG) for optimum performance, while maintaining flexibility. This can be very important when installing in racking and where space is limited.
The Cat 6A range of patch leads use an overall wire braid, individually screened pairs and a shielded RJ45 plug to prevent Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), thus minimising crosstalk from other neighbouring cables and electrical equipment.
