Purchasing Assistant Apprentice (UK) - Full Time

About the Purchasing Apprenticeship Role 

We are looking for an ambitious and committed apprentice with a can-do attitude to join and support our Purchasing Team as a Purchasing Assistant.

In this role you will not only be working as an essential part of the Purchasing Team but you will have the opportunity to rotate around the company and learn about the different business functions, therefore there is plenty of opportunity to learn and gain a greater understanding of the business operations overall.

This role is for someone who is passionate about doing a good job and willing to continually learn. During the apprenticeship you will study and complete a Level 3 Business Administration qualification which will allow you a number of different career avenues for the future. 

What are the main duties of the role? 

As Purchasing Assistant you will work in a dynamic and fast-paced team buying cables from suppliers worldwide. You will work to build on existing supplier and freight relationships around the world and learn to negotiate to get the best deal for both the customer and our business.

You will learn and develop your skills to provide the customer with a service that beats the competition and will have the opportunity to learn the technical aspects of the product along the way.  Your role will also include, but is not limited to:

  • Assisting in the monitoring, forecasting and planning of stock requirements
  • Communicating with supplier in the UK and overseas on the telephone and over email in order to process orders, agree delivery times and pricing
  • Negotiating with suppliers and freight companies in the UK and worldwide
  • Assist in resolving any issues with suppliers such as stock delays, stock availability and shortages
  • Keeping other departments across the business informed on stock deliveries and liaising with Accounts on POs and invoicing 
  • Supporting the sales team in order to meet the needs of the customer 
We provide training and support throughout your apprenticeship allowing study time to complete your course assignments as well as internal and on-the-job coaching.

  • GCSEs in Maths, English and ICT (Grade A-C or ability to carry out functional skills exams as part of apprenticeship) 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Excellent attention to detail and comfortable working with numbers 
  • Prepared to commit your own time for study outside of business hours to further your career
