History

Shoal Export is an independent UK based cable supplier founded in 2001 offering a dedicated export service to overseas customers. We operate as the export department for our sister company FS Cables who have been stocking and supplying flexible & specialist cables to the UK market since 1976.

Throughout the 1990’s FS Cables export sales started to grow, Shoal Export was born as we identified a specialised service was required to make overseas trading run smoothly. Sending the goods out the door is the easy bit, getting the export regulations, packaging & documentation correct is another challenge all together. Fortunately we are now experts in it. We are authorised by the Chamber of Commerce to produce all the export documentation in house providing you with a fast and efficient service.

The range of cables offered has grown over the years and now includes over 6000 product lines. Our market focus is on specialist and industrial markets from building automation systems and railway installations to chemical separation and energy generation. If you are looking for something really special we have the skills to offer a bespoke solution for that too.

FS Cables OfficeAt Shoal Export, we have always taken product quality and our environmental responsibilities seriously. All production facilities are regularly visited and monitored to ensure the cables meet the relevant standards and the impact on the planet is kept to a minimum. Shoal Export holds ISO 9001-2000 quality & ISO 14001 environmental accreditation to monitor these areas in house and through the product supply chain.

We want you to experience the best export service available and I will always welcome your feedback. Daniel Butterfield - Shoal Group Sales Director - daniel.butterfield@shoal-group.com

Export Packaging

Unlike other suppliers, Shoal Export provide comprehensive export packaging as standard, it’s all part of the service. We will select the most appropriate option to ensure that your goods arrive in perfect condition regardless of how far they have travelled.

Below are some examples, if you have a preference, please let us know when you make an enquiry so we can be sure to meet your needs.

Plywood wrap with steel bands

This method provides a high level of protection whilst keeping weight to a minimum, making it particularly suitable for airfreight shipments.

Wooden battened with steel bands

This type of packaging is very strong; however, it does increase the shipping weight, it also consumes a lot of timber, so it’s not the most environmentally friendly solution. To keep in line with our environmental targets, we favour plywood wrap; however, this option is available if required.

Palletised with shrink wrap plastic

Goods packed onto strong softwood pallets shrink-wrapped with LDPE plastic provides the perfect solution of small drums or multiple item shipments. The pallets are reusable and the LDPE shrink wrap can be reprocessed through plastic recycling facilities.

ISPM 15 Compliance

The ISPM 15 directive helps to prevent the worldwide spread of plant pests and diseases by regulating and using chemical or heat-treated wooden packaging material. We use packaging compliant with ISPM 15 regulations where applicable; this ensures your goods do not get stopped at the point of entry by customs. The packaging carries the wood packaging directive logo for identification; if required, additional compliance certificates can be supplied with the shipment.

Container loaded

If we are loading a container for you, we will pack individual items and pallets using the methods above and then pack the whole container with equal care. The warehouse facility has container loading ramps and forklifts designed for use inside a container. This enables us to move the goods around gently and avoid any damage being caused.

All the goods are then secured for sea freight shipping and the container sealed on site.

Export Documentation Service

Export Documentation

The correct paperwork is vital for every export shipment, it’s no good having the products shipped on time then have them stuck at customs because you are missing vital documentation. At Shoal Export, we understand this and have over 20 years’ experience supplying the right paperwork to ensure your goods arrive on time, every time.

Our in-house Export documentation service is available to produce a full range of certified Customs certificates and Letter of Credit documents to meet your needs, including:

UK Certificate of Origin

The European certificate of origin states the country the goods were manufactured in and the international tariff (commodity) code. These are used by the importing country to define how much duty is to be paid upon entry. Produced and certified in house, typically they take about 30 minutes to prepare and are ready to be sent with the goods to avoid any delays.

Arab-British Certificate of Origin

The Arab certificate of origin is also used to determine origin and duty rates in the importing country. They are a legal requirement in many Arab states, often the certificate of origin and the accompanying invoice require legalising by the local embassy, so they are recognised by the authorities of the importing country. We can produce & certify the certificates in-house then submit them to the embassy for legalisation. The legalisation process typically takes 10 days, depending on embassy holidays and workload.

United Kingdom EUR1 Certificate

Many countries have entered Bi-lateral free trade agreements with the European community providing import duty relief (reductions) or duty exemption on goods manufactured in the EU. To benefit from the duty relief an United Kingdom EUR1 certificate must be submitted to the importing country’s customs authorities upon goods entry to evidence the origin. We produce EUR1 certificates in house so they can be shipped with the consignment.

SASO Certificate

A conformity assessment programme has been implemented for all exports to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Products require a Certificate of Conformity also referred to as a SASO CoC enabling the goods to be cleared through Saudi Customs. To gain a SASO certificate, an inspection must take place by an authorised inspection company. We can arrange this for you to ensure your goods are fully compliant before shipping.

SONCAP Certificate

The SONCAP programme verifies the conformity of all products exported to Nigeria. Compliance with SONCAP requirements is applicable in addition to any existing import processes and paperwork. We can arrange inspection and certification from an authorised SONCAP inspection body to ensure your goods are not delayed once shipped.

ISPM 15 Certificate

The ISPM 15 directive helps to prevent the worldwide spread of plant-based pests and diseases by regulating and using chemical or heat-treated wooden packaging material. We use packaging compliant with ISPM 15 regulations where applicable; this ensures your goods do not get stopped at the point of entry by customs. The packaging carries the wood packaging directive logo for identification, if required, additional compliance certificates can be supplied with the shipment.

Airway Bill

The Air Waybill (AWB) is the most important document issued by a carrier either directly or through its authorised agent. It covers the transport of cargo from airport to airport. There are several purposes that an air waybill serves, but its main functions are evidence of receipt of goods and a contract of carriage. AWB’s and House Air Waybills (HAWB) are normally available on the same day as shipping the goods.

Bills of Lading

A Bill of Lading is a document issued by a carrier to a shipper, acknowledging that non-specified goods have been received on board as cargo for conveyance to a named place for delivery to the consignee identified. The Bill of Lading is often referred to as B/L, BoL or BL. Once the goods are loaded onto the vessel, the original BL is sent to the shipper. It can often take 10 – 14 days for the set of Bill to be released by the shipping.

If you do have specific requirements let us know and we will do our best to help.

Delivery & Shipping

A range of options is available depending on weight, size and urgency.

Below is an overview of the shipping options available from Shoal Export.

Air freight (CPT)
We will look after the shipment through to arrival at your specified airport as un-cleared goods. At this point, you/your consignee will be notified to arrange customs clearance and collection. This service is ideal for heavy items that are required quickly.

Sea freight (CPT)
We will make all the necessary arrangements and co-ordinate the shipment through to arrival at the specified seaport. At this point, you/your consignee will be notified to arrange customs clearance and collection. This is a very economical way of shipping heavy and large goods around the world if you have time to wait.

Courier service (CPT)
DHL, UPS, and TNT courier transport is available to provide a “door to door” service. For small items, this is often the most economical and quickest method of despatch.

Road (CPT)
Road transport offers the most economical solution for palletised freight and heavy items throughout Europe and offers the benefits of a door to door service.

Rail (CPT)
Rail transport is often used for long-distance transport into landlocked areas such as Kazakhstan and Russia. The service carries the goods from us to the designated railhead terminal. At this point, you/your consignee will be notified to arrange customs clearance and collection.

Collection (EXW)
If you prefer to collect, then that’s not a problem either; we will still export pack the goods and give you a collection reference number.

Specialist Cables

Specialist Cables
Buying cable is easy but when you have special requirements getting the right cable can be difficult. That’s when you need the Cable Engineering team who can understand your needs and solve your problems.

Sometimes it’s a case of identifying the best production facility to make the cable specification, for other situations, we may need to start with a blank page and together create your ideal cable. In either situation, we can help.

What we do
An initial investigation process helps us understand what you want to achieve, what the cable needs to do and what the challenges are. Through this process, we may ask questions relating to the cables electrical or data performance required, environmental conditions and installation requirements. All this helps us build a picture of your needs.

Following the information collection, the technical team turn the information into a cable specification and proposal, meeting your requirements. When you’re happy, you raise an order and Shoal Export manages the production process to ensure the cable is produced to your exact specification and on time, so you get the cable you need when you need it.

Special cables are not necessarily complicated or expensive, you just need to speak with the right people; contact us now to order cable the easy way.
